Bodybuilders like art and drawing in particular. This is a drawing of my dear friend Janna Ionova featuring a Venetian carnival mask, an hourglass and a candlestick. It is a balance between light and dark, a subtle, chic blue with its intelligence, steadiness and nobility, Pompeian calm red, hot and plenteous, and siena, an orange yellow reminiscent of the central Italian city of Siena, which I like in the picture. The overall atmosphere is a reminder of gothic domes and a fog rolling in an Italian city, adding to the chic, subdued and serene coloring.
Talking about color… There is an excellent source of inspiration and explanation of color with full-color photographs alongside a selection of colors relating thematically – Colorscape: An Around-The-World Guide to Color.
For investigation of color blue and understanding its gist, look for a book Blue Mythologies: Reflections on a Colour, which will take you from the blue of a newborn baby’s eyes to Giotto’s frescoes at Padua, and from the films of Derek Jarman and Krzysztof Kieslowski to the islands of Venice and Aran. In each example the meaning both above and below the surface of culture will be unpicked.
